Gulagu.net is a Russian non-governmental project created by human rights activist Vladimir Osechkin in 2011, which  main aim is to combat torture system and corruption in the Russian penitentiary system and to protect the rights of prisoners in Russian penitentiary institutions.

We, Gulagu.net experts, based on more than 10 years of human rights background, extensive experience, studied thousands of volumes of various criminal cases and terabytes of video archive from the institutions of the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service, responsibly declare that the problem of torture and humiliation in Russian places of detention is systemic. Torture, as part of the governmental machine, was inherited by Russia from the NKVD and the Gulag of the KGB of the USSR, and since the collapse of the Soviet Union, the situation has not only not changed for better, but even worsened.

Entrepreneurs and businessmen in Russia are in a special risk group, since criminal cases are often deliberately fabricated against them, including tax evasion, in order to deprive them of their freedom and opportunities for protection and for the purpose of further systematic torture and rape to extort money from their relatives and blackmailing.

We believe that for Aleksey Alchin, if he is extradited to Russia, there is a real danger to his health and life, he can be subjected to torture and rape, like thousands of prisoners, materials and testimonies of torture are published on the Gulagu.net website, and testimonies and reports on which were submitted to the UN, the CPT, the ECtHR, a large number of international journalists and other human rights organizations in order to investigate these crimes.

Many of these publications caused a wide public outcry and were widely covered by the media.

The Gulagu.net team looks forward to an objective and comprehensive study of all the materials necessary for a fair and law-based decision on international protection for Alexei Alchin.

Gulagu.net asks you to pay special  attention to the fact that in our experience, a person in the situation of Aleksey Alchin, in case of deportation, will be subjected to torture during the arrest and petitions for protection.
